Online Home Business Success – It’s definitely not this!
How do you define what success really is for you personally? How do you define this for your own individual online home business?
At first sight, the answer may seem obvious, but when you think more carefully considering your whole life experience, the answer becomes very clouded. There’s no one simple definition of business or personal success.
Why? Because it’s an individual thing and will change throughout your life. Our ideas of success as children hinge around the level of happiness we experience.
As adults, life is more complex, and our aspirations are varied and usually conflicting in various ways. Aspirations change as we grow in maturity and experience. As we grow and go through the many facets of life’s school of hard knocks and some joys thrown in to keep us sane and encouraged, success seems to become more and more abstract and hard to grab hold of.
So how can you define what true success is for you today, tomorrow and for the future?
In terms of online home business success – making lots of money comes way down the list. If you set your definition of success purely on monetary riches or financial independence, then you’re going to discover very quickly that finding this kind of success puts you on an endless and ever accelerating treadmill! Let’s not go there. That’s where the frustrated unsuccessful majority find themselves; it’s a place of no escape or worse still – total defeat!
How many business people do you know or have heard of, who start a business to gain freedom from the grind of employment or the shackles of poverty? They start up with high hopes and expectations. Then, very fast, reality kicks in – they soon discover that instead of running a home business leading to freedom, their business is running them, driving their whole lives and finances, leading them into slavery 24/7 to the business they thought would set them free.
Please remember that success is an individual thing and you need to make your own assessment and definition of success in your present situation and circumstances. As life progresses, your circumstances will change and your ideas of success may also change to a modest or large degree.
Success will involve a large degree of happiness and satisfaction of life as a whole. However, ethics and morality dictate that this must not be at the emotional or financial cost to others. We don’t tread other people down so that we can reach our own goals of satisfaction. Obvious, but the real world often works just like this. Most people aren’t purposely pushing others aside, but this is sometimes the result of an inconsiderate drive for success at any cost. That’s why there are so many scams around and so much hype of unworthy business opportunities, etc.
True Success – Not all about Wealth
Gaining wealth isn’t wrong but it requires great integrity to handle great wealth in an honest, ethical way.
True success isn’t about the size of your bank balance, the number or type of cars you own, or the size of your house. All of these can contribute to your well being but they can also become a trap and a great liability.
Money, flashy cars and upmarket houses alone are not necessarily going to make you happy and satisfied – of course these might help as fair bit but they are not an end in themselves.
Great personal power is not success. Wars and revolutions can be started by a quest of unscrupulous leaders for personal power, control and the accumulated luxuries of life. This is not success but ultimately a massive failure.
Many things and great power are not a measure of success. Some rich people have lived shallow unfulfilled lives despite their riches and power. A few have lived solitary reclusive lives as a direct result of great wealth. Some have lost it all and become impoverished and with no home or security.
True Success Embraces many Facets
People are at the center of true success. Your relationships with family, friends, colleagues and others who you come into contact with, are vital in helping create a happy fulfilled life. Your sense of self worth has to be high – I have often counselled people to love themselves, stop being their own harshest judge, and to VALUE THEMSELVES.
Without developing these three inner traits, you’ll miss life’s best things and never find that inner satisfaction that successful people all share. Not a haughty self-satisfaction, but a deep knowledge that you have and are fulfilling a clear purpose for your life.
Your Online Home Business is but a small part of your journey towards true success in life. How you define what is success for you personally, only you will know.
What do you want from life? Forget massive wealth – that may come if you really need it and can handle it. Instead begin asking about the real purpose of your life. How do you want to be remembered when you’re too old to work or worry about building success anymore? Who will remember you one year or ten years after you’ve departed this life? What do you want to be remembered for?
True success begins with integrity of life in all things, a knowledge of why you are here. Too many people drift through life and never find their calling or purpose. What a waste!!!
Start thinking deeply on these things. We will look at some more aspects of true success, related to online home business in the next article.
